In a recently published update, Gard looks at the situation with regards to the implementation of the ‘carriage ban’ on non-compliant fuel.
From 1 March 2020, ships are prohibited from carrying fuel oil with a sulphur content exceeding 0.50% m/m. The ’carriage ban’ does not apply to vessels fitted with an approved exhaust gas cleaning system or when the fuel is being carried as cargo. The standard format of the IAPP certificate will also change from 1 March 2020 and shall identify each ship’s compliance option. The IAPP certificate is required to be re-issued in the new format no later than the first IAPP survey after 1 March 2020.
