Lloyd’s Register Foundation showcases its maritime heritage

Lloyd’s Register Foundation’s Heritage & Education Centre has been digitising its Ship Plan and Survey Report Collection to make it freely available to the general public.

The Collection is a unique resource that offers a fantastic insight into the development of maritime history, naval architecture and world trade. Dating from the 1830s up until the 1960s, the Collection includes original ship plans, reports, correspondence, telegrams and photographs.

As of January 2020, almost 200,000 documents have been released, with a further +1,000,000 documents to follow. Over 40,000 documents available to view currently are about the port of London, alongside a collection of rare documents for Cutty Sark, Mauretania, Dunedin etc.

Since the Collection’s release, the exhibits were used for research in a number of areas, including ancestral studies, maritime archaeology, economics and linguistics.
